First Global Bank is opening the door to greater profitability and success for the Small and Medium Sized (SME) sector with its SME Hub to be launched at the upcoming FGB SME Summit. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 20th at the Spanish Court Hotel and will feature Jamaica’s leading business executives from the private and public sectors.

The bank, which is part of the GraceKennedy Group, has invited 300 SMEs to a thought leadership conference in an effort to prepare them to take their businesses to the next level. Attendees will benefit from the advice and insights of successful entrepreneurs and business executives including hotelier, Chris Issa; telecommunications entrepreneur, Chris Dehring; and businesswoman Jackie Stewart-Lechler of the Stewart’s Auto Group. Other Speakers include JAMPRO, the Development of Jamaica, Ernst and Young Jamaica and GK Capital.

The summit comes on the heels of announcements made in the 2019 budget presentation by Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable Nigel Clarke, which has prompted Jamaica’s business sector to prepare for changes. Minister Clarke estimated that 300,000 SMEs are to receive working capital at single-digit interest rates among other benefits as part of the Government’s $14-billion stimulus package.

Hosting the event is First Global Bank CEO, Mariame McIntosh Robinson, who sees the SME Summit as a unique opportunity for SMEs looking to scale. “The 2019/2020 budget presentation highlights new opportunities for SMEs to grow their businesses as they now have greater access to financing due to reduced interest rates and the removal of several taxes and fees.”

McIntosh Robinson continued, “First Global Bank, through the FGB SME Hub, is giving entrepreneurs a fighting chance at achieving greater levels of productivity, growth and competitiveness through a suite of industry-specific loan products and business support that addresses their specific needs in a real way.”

The SME Hub and Summit are part of FGB’s strategy to become the SME bank of choice in Jamaica. The FGB SME Hub is a tailored programme of support to help Small and Medium businesses to scale, particularly by providing SMEs with the solution to the common challenges of access to financing, capacity building and networking opportunities. Following the SME Summit, entrepreneurs can benefit from further training and support through FGB’s BizNet workshops to be held in the coming months.
